The tool is free to use and also offers source code under the GNU GPL 3.0 license. You can use the tool to decrypt and encrypt files as well as to analyze contents of file systems and containers. EFSDump is free to use and its source code is released under the GNU GPL 3.0 license.Д®FSTools is a command line tool that runs on Windows 2000/XP and later operating systems. Only Windows XP, Vista, 7 or Server 2008 R2 is required and the tool is not compatible with Windows 2000 or previous editions of the latter operating system.

It does not even require a process to be started on the Windows machine to analyze the NTFS volumes that are configured to encrypt files. Therefore, the users will not be able to read the files when the tool is not used to decrypt the container.Д®FSDump is a lightweight application that does not need any substantial resources to run. However, the EFS Volume is not used to store the files and the files are stored in non-encrypted folders. The tool can scan for the encrypted containers (also called EFS Volume) and list the account ID of the user that is associated with the container. Files which are protected by a login SID can also be accessed by members of the Local Administrators group.Д®FSDump also reads the information about files stored in the encrypted containers that are part of the legacy NTFS file systems. It displays account information of the users who have access to the files (User name: Logon Name: EFS ID / GUID, SID, Security descriptors). The tool analyzes the NTFS file systems that are configured to encrypt files.
